To dread or not to dread- that is the question
It was a normal evening, I was sitting in the kitchen with my dear friends Kevin and Jon and we were drinking, laughing and chatting about this and that. At one point we started talking about hair styles and Jon said that he wasn't sure if he should do dreadlocks again. "To dread or not to dread- that is the question"- he said. We laughed about his quote and the comparison to Shakespeare. Later on I kept thinking about his quote and realised the random profoundness of it: to dread=to fear. So in this case the question was whether to fear or not to fear. I first came to the conclusion that it's better not to fear because fear is useless. We usually fear things that might happen in the future but we live in the moment and the future hasn't come yet. I was happy that I had found an answer to this question. But somehow I kept thinking about it and then wondered if I had jumped to a conclusion to fast. Isn't fear a part of life? It's a feeling like anger, sadness or joy and we are human beings, entitled to our emotions. So I figured that there is nothing wrong with fear as long as we don't let it overtake us. That's the hard part: accepting fear but not letting it stop yourself from doing the things you really want to. So in the end I figured that the question "to dread or not to dread" doesn't really matter ( no offense Jon;)) if you find the courage to conquer you fears. So maybe the next time you're eager to do something but fear comes up you think about this story and decide to do it anyway. Because once you looked your fear in the eyes it disappears and magical things can happen. Promised!
