Culinary travels through the world

Dear readers,

I'm currently lucky enough to do what I love most: traveling, cooking and writing. Fate has brought me to San Marcos TX, a small town in the heart of North America.

To be honest- I have never been a big fan of the United States and if anyone would've had told me before that I would end up just in Texas I would've probably told them that they're insane! But as always the Universe has its own particular ways of bringing you to the right places at the right time. So here I am now in the wild, wild west and to my biggest surpise I absolutely love it!

San Marcos is very special town and it's inspiring me in many different ways. Thanks to my writer friend Austin, who invited me to live at his place during my stay , I've gotten to know Blake and Amber, two promising young artists (graphic novel designer and painter) whose art and ideas inspire me. The three of them are not only creative and open-hearted but also very spiritual in their own ways. They all have their unique way of living and expressing their spirituality and have taught me a lot about astrology, self-realization and how to explore the divine self. Conversations, jam sessions and meditations with these wonderful people are inspiring, eye-opening and a real nourishment for my soul. I will share some of my new insights at a later date.

Besides meeting new friends I've had the opportunity to explore the beautiful nature in and around San Marcos. I've fallen in love with the oak trees which you can find everywhere in Texas and the San Marcos river whose water is super clear, contains green wild rice and has the same temperature throughout the whole year. And not to forget the weather which is marvelous! Eventhough it's only January it seems that Spring has already arrived. The temperature is agreeable, the sun is shining everyday and the birds are singing.

Last but not least am I not only inspired by conversations and adventures with new friends and the stunning landscape but also by the delicious Texan food. Since Texas used to be part of Mexico during the 19th century its been influenced by the Mexican cuisine. You will find a lot of different tacos and tortillas around here and the Mexican and the Texan people like to eat tacos anytime of the day: for dinner, lunch and even for breakfast! The fact that I had never heard of such a thing as "breakfast tacos" amused my friend and he decided that it was time to introduce me to this typical Mexican dish. The first breakfast taco I had was filled with potatoes, cheese and eggs and I adored it. Since that first breakfast taco I have eaten many more and have been inspired to come up with my own recipes. Therefore I'm happy to now share a new dish with you: the tomato-egg breakfast taco with avocado :) (You'll find the complete recipe in the Soulfood section.)

Now I wish all of you a splendid day- may it be filled with sunshine, love and delight! <3
